Once the basic concepts of Pre-Algebra have been mastered, students will be able to extend their mathematic skills in new directions. In Algebra I, students will learn how to use algebraic properties and methods. They will also begin to understand how to define variables, manipulate equations and further explore the order of operations. Problem solving skills will be emphasized throughout this course and students will begin to see Algebra as a valuable tool of reasoning. Endless daily uses, which may not seem like algebraic problems at first, will prove useful for everything from arranging a party, to planning a trip to negotiating a loan. Learners will also be introduced to real-world algebraic problems to emphasize the importance of mathematics outside of the classroom. The content of this course will also focus on preparing each student for success in standardized, and college-entrance exams. The student's knowledge of the content will be measured by a variety of methods, such as quizzes, tests, presentations, projects, activities, notes, visual and/or verbal assessments.
